Steel pipe, as a hollow long strip of steel, occupies an irreplaceable position in modern industry. It is not only the main carrier for bulk fluid transportation, but also an important material in mechanical manufacturing and engineering structures.

From the perspective of usage, steel pipes are widely used for transporting fluids such as oil, natural gas, water, coal gas, steam, etc. At the same time, due to the lighter weight of steel pipes with the same bending and torsional strength, they are also widely used in the manufacturing of mechanical parts and engineering structures. In addition, in the field of conventional weapons, steel pipes are often used to produce products such as gun barrels and shells.

From a classification perspective, steel pipes are mainly divided into two categories: seamless steel pipes and welded steel pipes (also known as welded pipes). According to the cross-sectional shape, it can be divided into circular pipes and irregular pipes. Among them, circular steel pipes are the most widely used, but irregular steel pipes such as square, rectangular, semi-circular, hexagonal, equilateral triangle, octagonal, etc. also have important value in specific scenarios.

For steel pipes subjected to fluid pressure, hydraulic tests must be conducted to verify their pressure resistance and quality. It is qualified if there is no leakage, wetting or expansion under the specified pressure. Some steel pipes also need to undergo additional tests such as edge rolling test, expansion test, and flattening test according to standards or customer requirements to ensure their performance.
